Rome Health is reopening its renovated Main Entrance on North James Street Wednesday, June 18th, a milestone in the hospital’s $45.7 million capital improvement project to modernize surgical and critical care services. Expanded patient and visitor parking will also open at the Main Entrance, making it easier for the public to get to where they need to go without unnecessary walking or confusion.
The Main Entrance on North James Street will be the primary public access point for all hospital-based services, including inpatient care, Residential Health Care Facility, cardiopulmonary services, medical imaging, surgery, endoscopy, the sleep lab, and infusions. There is no public access to the Emergency Department from this entrance.
Patients will use other entrances with adjacent parking to access other services.
• Emergency Department Entrance – For emergency care services only. No public access to the main hospital.
• Medical Center Entrance (Oak Street) – For office appointments at Primary Care, General Surgery, Bariatrics, Gastroenterology, Orthopedics, and Sports Medicine. No public access to the main hospital.
• Dorothy Griffin Cardiovascular Center Entrance (Oak Street) – For St. Joseph’s Cardiology appointments only. No public access to the main hospital.
• Pharmacy Entrance – For prescription pick-up only. No public access to the main hospital.
With the reopening, patient registration will now be centrally located in the Main Lobby, streamlining access and improving the overall experience for patients and visitors. Upon arrival, patients will check in at a kiosk and be called to the registration desk, eliminating the need to stand in line.
As part of its continued commitment to safety, everyone entering through the Main Entrance will be greeted by a security guard and pass through the hospital’s new weapons detection system. The system enhances security while allowing for a smooth and unobtrusive entry process.
“This project represents a major step forward in our efforts to create a safer, more accessible and patient-friendly environment,” said Chief Operating Officer Ryan Thompson, MBA, FACHE. “The reopening of our Main Entrance is a key part of delivering that promise to our community.”
Pending final approval from the New York State Department of Health, Rome Health’s new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is expected to open later this month, with the new Kaplan Center for Surgical Services opening in July. Phases II and III of the capital project—featuring the renovation of former operating rooms and construction of modern clinical support areas—remain on track for completion in 2026.
