Rome Health to Host Community Open House on May 29 Public Invited to Tour New Main Entrance, ICU, and Kaplan Center for Surgical Services
Rome Health is excited to welcome the community for a special Open House Thursday, May 29, offering guided tours of the hospital’s newly completed Main Entrance, Intensive Care Unit, and Kaplan Center for Surgical Services. Tours will be available from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., starting at the hospital’s new main entrance at 1500 N. James St., Rome.
This event provides a first look at the transformative changes underway at Rome Health as the hospital prepares for the anticipated summer opening of the new facilities, pending final approval from the New York State Department of Health. The new ICU and Main Entrance will open first, with the Surgical Center following a month later.
“This is an exciting moment for the entire Rome community,” said AnneMarie Czyz, Ed.D., RN, President and CEO of Rome Health. “The new entrance, ICU, and surgical center were designed to elevate the experience for patients and families—offering a more modern, comfortable, and healing environment that reflects our commitment to exceptional care.”
The new facilities are part of a $45.7 million capital project to expand and modernize critical areas of the hospital. Phase I of the project includes a 30,000 square-foot, three-story addition housing a more accessible main entrance, a completely reimagined Intensive Care Unit, and the Kaplan Center for Surgical Services, which features state-of-the-art operating rooms built to meet the evolving needs of both patients and providers.
It is funded by a mix of public support and private philanthropy—including a $26 million New York State Transformation Grant, $3 million in ARPA funds from the City of Rome, $500,000 in ARPA funds from Oneida County and the enthusiastic backing from over 400 community donors. The Kaplan Center for Surgical Services is named in honor of Charles and Florence Kaplan, whose landmark $5 million gift remains the largest donation in Rome Health’s history.
With the completion of Phase I nearing, future phases will include renovation of existing surgical areas and the creation of new spaces to support staff and streamline care delivery. Phases II and III will be complete in 2026.
“This open house is an opportunity for the community to see what’s possible when innovation, compassion, and collaboration come together,” said Chester W. DiBari III, Executive Director of the Rome Health Foundation. “Together, we are transforming community based healthcare to deliver the best care out there. Here.”
