Rome, NY — Effective Sunday, Feb. 1, Rome Health’s Main Entrance will be closed overnight from 10:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. During these hours, the Emergency Department entrance will serve as the sole point of entry for the facility. Patients accessing Maternity, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), or other secured areas during overnight hours will be escorted upon entry through the Emergency Department.
This adjustment follows a review of overnight entrance usage and community and staff feedback, which indicated that traffic through the Main Entrance during late-night hours is minimal. Consolidating overnight access allows Rome Health to more effectively deploy security resources and enhance safety for patients, visitors, and staff.
The overnight closure of the Main Entrance will enable the on-site security officer to conduct facility rounds and respond quickly to any needs, rather than monitoring an underutilized entrance,” said Safety Officer Allen Hurd. “This change strengthens overall safety while ensuring appropriate access during overnight hours.”
Rome Health reminds patients and visitors that, during normal operating hours, it is important to use the entrance designated for the service they are seeking to ensure timely access and reduce congestion.
Main Entrance (North James Street)
The primary public access point for hospital-based services, including inpatient care, the Residential Health Care Facility, cardiopulmonary services, medical imaging, surgery, endoscopy, the sleep lab, and infusions. There is no public access to the Emergency Department from this entrance.
Emergency Department Entrance
For emergency care services. No public access to the main hospital except during overnight hours (10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.), when other entrances are closed.
Medical Center Entrance (Oak Street)
For office appointments at Primary Care, General Surgery, Bariatrics, Gastroenterology, Orthopedics, Podiatry and Sports Medicine. No public access to the main hospital.
Dorothy Griffin Cardiovascular Center Entrance (Oak Street)
For St. Joseph’s Cardiology appointments only.
No public access to the main hospital.
Pharmacy Entrance
For prescription pick-up only.
No public access to the main hospital.
