Rome Health Surgical Specialists has welcomed Leo Amodu, MD, MPH, to its practice, located in the Medical Center on the hospital’s main campus. Dr. Amodu specializes in general and bariatric surgery and also performs colonoscopies. Appointments may be made by calling 315.338.7040.
Dr. Amodu earned his medical degree at the University of Ilorin College of Medicine in Nigeria. He advanced his training in general surgery with an internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and residencies at North-Shore-Long Island Jewish-Hofstra School of Medicine Northwell Health and New York University Long Island School of Medicine. He completed his fellowship in bariatric and foregut surgery at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Ohio. A lifelong learner, researcher, published author and instructor, Dr. Amodu also earned his master of public health degree in epidemiology from Boston University School of Public Health.
Dr. Amodu has been a co-investigator in numerous research studies at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Northwell Health Systems to identify evidence-based practices that produce the best outcomes for patients. He is a peer reviewer for several medical journals. “It was an opportunity for me to use the skills I have obtained in graduate school. I think we have moved to an era of evidenced based medicine. Whatever treatments you are using on patients, you want to be sure that the care being provided is backed by data and research,” Amodu said.
Dr. Amodu’s training in major medical centers afforded him the opportunity to gain extensive experience in a broad range of surgical procedures and advanced surgical techniques, including minimally invasive surgery and robotic surgery.
Dr. Amodu will perform bariatric procedures at Rome Health, such as gastric sleeve, gastric bypass and revision surgery. He will also be available to provide a broad range of general surgery treatments of gallbladder disease, appendicitis, and hernia repair, colon resections and endoscopy.
