Rome Health's Community Recovery Center is sponsoring a free community event on vaping prevention Monday, Sept. 9.
“Vaping Me Crazy” is presented by Michael DeLeon, who uses his former life of addiction and violence to help steer teens straight. Parents are encouraged to attend to learn about the current drug trends and how drugs are being marketed to our youth.
The community has two opportunities to listen to DeLeon’s presentation:
• 3:00 p.m. at Rome Health, 1500 N. James St. Park in the Oak Street parking lot, enter through the Bartlett Entrance and take the elevator to the 2nd Floor Classroom.
• 6:30 p.m. at Gansevoort Elementary school gymnasium, 758 W Liberty St., Rome. Connected Community Schools will host an Open HUB and Pantry Restock at 7:30 pm immediately following the presentation at Gansevoort.

Some of the topics that will be covered include the complete misunderstood fixation of the Vape and the JUUL by adolescents; the susceptibility of the adolescent brain to this dangerous stimulant; the systemic dangers to the brain and body that are completely underestimated; and the trifecta gateway of nicotine, alcohol and marijuana.
Sponsored by the Rome Health Community Recovery Center, “Vaping Me Crazy” is funded through a grant from the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports in partnership with the Rome City School District and Oneida County.
In addition to the public event for the community, the grant is supporting prevention education for students and educators, including school assemblies for students at Rome Free Academy Monday, Sept. 9, to help equip them with the tools to make positive life-choices.
