Eligible adults can receive screening mammograms Mondays and Tuesdays without an appointment
As the world celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Rome Health is making routine breast cancer screening more convenient with walk-in screening mammograms at Rome Health Convenient Care at Turning Stone beginning Oct. 19.
Eligible adults 40 and older can walk in for a screening mammogram on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. No appointment is needed.
“If a busy schedule has made it difficult to keep up with your mammograms, we want to make it easier,” said Olivia Andrade, MD, medical director of Rome Health Convenient Care at Turning Stone. “Regular screening can help detect breast cancer before symptoms develop. By offering walk-in mammograms, we’re giving people another convenient way to take care of their health.”
A screening mammogram is an X-ray of the breast used to look for signs of cancer before a person notices symptoms. Finding breast cancer early may provide more treatment options and improve the chances of successful treatment.
To qualify for a walk-in screening mammogram, individuals must:
· Be 40 or older.
· Have no breast symptoms or concerns, such as a lump, pain or other breast changes.
· Have had their last screening mammogram at least 366 days earlier.
Patients who do not have an order for a screening mammogram can receive help obtaining one at the clinic. Staff can also help schedule a follow-up visit with a primary care provider, if needed.
People who have a breast lump, pain or another breast concern should contact a health care provider for an evaluation. If a diagnostic mammogram is needed to examine a specific concern more closely, an appointment can be scheduled at Rome Health’s Women’s Imaging Center on the hospital’s main campus. Diagnostic mammograms are not available at Turning Stone.
“Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a good reminder to make preventive care a priority,” Dr. Andrade said. “We encourage people to stay up to date with recommended screenings and talk with a health care provider if they have questions or concerns about their breast health.”
Rome Health Convenient Care at Turning Stone is located in Suite 201 of the Crescent Hotel, 5218 Patrick Road, Verona. Walk-in screening mammograms are available Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., beginning Oct. 19.
